Suitcase Info from Witte

Jessie asked a suitcase question and got this reply; I share it with the group to benefit you all.

At the current time, the suitcase that you check cannot weigh more than 50 pounds and should have a maximum size of 62" (height plus width plus depth). If the suitcase is much over 50 pounds, they will charge you for it right at the ticket counter. You can check one suitcase (this is our rule b/c of limited space on the motorcoach). You can bring one small piece of hand luggage - soft sided w/out wheels - that weighs no more than 15 pounds. Plus a purse and a camera.

While I was sitting in the pews at rehearsal today, I couldn't help but ponder over some of the comments mentioned in class and on the blog over the past few weeks. Experiencing the choir as a bystander made me realize just how different our experience is from those sitting in the audience. We're like the inner workings of a clock, each piece needing to fit perfectly into the next piece for the clock to function properly. Only we can't see the end product, the face of the clock, the time. We only see and hear those directly by us. Only those who are on the outside can truly experience the product of our hard work. We are the harshest judges, yet we're the only ones who can't truly hear ourselves.

It is great to have an appreciative audience at our concerts. It is even better to hear from them after the concert.

We received this wonderful comment from UAB employee Betty McCulloch today:

I was in the audience Saturday night during the UAB and Decatur choir performance, and I congratulate you, Dr. Davis and all members of the choirs for an outstanding performance. The music was spectacular and thrilling – so much so that I felt spiritually moved during and after the performance. It is so exciting to know that so many talented students are interested in making music, and I was able to experience it for FREE! I lament that more of the UAB community wasn’t there to hear the program, and I will spread the word before your next performance.Please pass on my congratulations to Dr. Davis and all choir members. Precious Lord Dedication

Thanks, choir, for your fine singing of "Precious Lord." You did a great job and maybe we can sing it a few more times in France.

These are the words I wanted to say for all to hear:

“There is another link that connects UAB and Decatur and it is the history that Carl and I shared together at the University of Mississippi under the outstanding direction of Dr. Jerry Jordan. Carl and I experienced something special, unique, and life-changing under Dr. Jordan’s direction, and I am sorry to report that he lost his father last Thursday; they buried him today. I am honored to say that I knew Mr. Jordan and liked him very much. We sing this song as a small way of honoring his life.”

Concert Thoughts

Whew! What a night!

Great job on everything.

We will dissect and analyze on Monday -- for tonight, feel great about everything you did. I think it was the strongest all-around UAB choir concert I've been a part of. I thought all three UAB choirs were magnificent and Decatur did an outstanding job.

Do me a favor: only positive comments on the blog. We'll be constructive in our commenting later.
