What businesses do you frequent in Birmingham?

Concert Choir,

First a little story:

I ate lunch yesterday at one of the places I visit a lot for meals.  Before I left, I asked to speak to the manager and I told him:
  • who I was (uab choir director)
  • that I ate there often
  • that I was raising money for a local group
  • and I wondered if he'd be interested in buying an advertisement
He said that he normally didn't do that kind of thing but that he was interested in helping frequent customers to his business.

So we're in a "raise money" phase in preparation for the France trip next year.

Over the next few weeks, I'm going to enter a "sell advertisements" phase and I'm wondering what businesses you frequent.  I have a group I'm working with in this endeavor and we brainstormed the following:

J Clyde's, Surin, TGIFriday's, Dive Shop, Al's Purple Onion, Twist & Shout

Where are the other places you spend money?  Where do you eat?  Where do you get your tux/dresses cleaned?  Where do you spend your money?

Let me know in the comments . . . and please sign your name.  Thanks!

I'm kind of surprised Starbucks isn't on that list.

Alright. Somebody has to say it.

I mean, beer seems to be an integral part of our concert tours, so I think we should get some beer companies to sponsor us.

If we were to be honest with ourselves, anyway.

five points grill, ocarrs, mellow mushroom, and probably a lot more

im sure different music stores might be interested... whats that piano store in homewood called? i think its forbes

and im gonna go ahead and agree with harry... im not sure if it would look bad or not... but some less commercial breweries might actually do that... sweetwater perhaps?

if there's anything that can be done to help, please do inform us... because, you know, money that we dont have to pay out of pocket is always a good thing...

Now while I'm totally in agreement that this choir keeps many bars in the Bham metro area open we don't want to look like a bunch of drinks do we? But that being said, I liked the idea of contacting a brewery. And if we are going to it ought to be Good People. It's brewed on 11th Ave S. and is an awesome part of our community. A request needs to be put in to every place that any if us works. I also happen to know a certain choir director who's wife is a doctor. Why not the practice that person's lovely wife works for ; ) We could use some outside the box kind of thinking. Also would Dr Kris be willing to donate space in the opera scenes program. A program is only so big and we really only have 2 performances before the spring and it might be too late by the spring.

i went to watkins cleaners to get my dress dry cleaned. and it was 28 dollars. so needless to say, don't frequent them. But they definitely have some change to spare, regardless of whether they will or not.

What about Snoozy's Bookstore? When I was in school I liked to buy my books there because they tended to be a bit cheaper than the Blazer Bookstore.
