Advice for Starting a Music Education Career

I'm spending today prepping for a class I teach in the Spring. I ran across this video that some of you may enjoy.

I agree with what she says.
A word on the "Students can tell if you want to be there working with them." Yes, they can...but just because you want to be there doesn't mean that you're going to change their attitude and make it where THEY want to be there. In my experience, they've got to work whether they want to be there or not

ok so i def agree with the what the lady said in the video, and the post above me. From what I've seen and learned a career in Music Education is not an easy profession and from my experience as a student, in whatever setting it may have been (Middle/HighSchool or even now in College), Music Educators just don't get the respect and support they deserve from students, parents, faculty, and the community and I feel alot of the time they are disregarded, as if their job isn't "a real job". It's sad. But again, that's just what I've witnessed..maybe somewhere there is MusicGeek Utopia and everyone embraces the craft. :D

The attitude that music is not "Necessary" or "Important" comes from other teachers and administrators who have never been exposed to the benefits of any of the arts. They also see it as "Easy." Right...
