Pride and Performance

I was incredibly proud of our performance today.

I thought we performed our pieces very well and we got great ideas for improvement from Dr. Holmes, our clinician. Doing a great job and then finding out how we can do something even better is a place I like to be.

Be proud of yourself today. Something special happened. You were fabulous.

Let me know what you think about what you heard or experienced today. Comment on this post with your thoughts . . .

I thought it was AMAZING! I may be a little sensitive, but I started to tear up singing the end of Song of Triumph. I thought it was all really great. I was moved myself, so I hope people in the audience were too.

I absolutely love going to the ACDA festival. There's something about the atmosphere and having our peers there... it just pumps us up. It's FUN. I think it's the combination of the competition, the fact that we KNOW we can kick butt, and the way we (the students) inspire each other. The whole place was filled with an amazing energy. I think if we could find that energy and excitement before EVERY performance... well, that would just be awesome.

In contrast, I think the other choirs were really good... and, we've got to pick up our game! I don't think it will be so easy to steal the show next time... ;-D

I really liked the clinician, too. I love the way he focused on the text and the way to best use the music to portray the feeling and tone of the text. I think we focus a lot on the music, and we tend to let ourselves forget about what we're actually saying (we feel the music, which isn't bad, but there's so much more)... when, really, the text is equally important. He reminded me that we should use the text and the music to compliment EACH OTHER in order to reach the full potential of a piece.

This was a great day for the UAB Choir. I could not be happier with our performance. We were definitely "in the zone". The ending chord of "Song of Triumph" felt incredible.

I think we've learned lots even since the concert. Now that we have, what, four (?) performances under our belts and have been able to come back, re-visit them both intellectually and musically, we reinforced many weak points, and the music has had a little more time to ferment, if you know what I mean...You just can't rush art. There is a process, and that's why we love it so much. It's magical, especially when there's an ensemble feel to it, coupled with live performances. You can't really analyze everything that goes into it to make it simply the wondrous thing that it is. All elements fire differently, you know? Today we really sparkled. The energy of this group on a good, really focused day is tough to beat...congrats to us!

i thought we did great, all anyone standing around me could say after we were done was "that felt great". It's been a long time since i've actually had fun in a concert- it was nice not having to force a smile :-D

yesterday was wonderful for several reasons...the greatest, i think, is that we all realized the sheer magic we can make as an ensemble. it was quite calming to hear the history behind "song of triumph" and a bit coincidental since each time we sing it, i'm reminded of a recently passed relative.

just a great day of music, relations, and pride. let's not forget that feeling.

on another note...i'm going to ask what several including myself don't have the answer to...WHO IS "g"?

While we were walking up to the stage, I overheard a girl in the audience say, "UAB's choir is always good." When I heard this, my smile got even bigger. I felt extremely proud to be in the choir!

I did love the fact that all of our smiles came from the truth of what we felt at that moment...

I was unable to attend myself, but it seems that UAB CC kicked butt again. Its good to hear that the other choirs were good too. I think over the years we have raised the bar for choral singing in Alabama and other choirs are responding. I long to see the day when Alabama is host to a major choral competition. High fives to all of you!
